We are thrilled to announce that College View Elementary has been awarded a $20,000 grant from Bruton’s Books during our annual golf outing! College View Elementary has shown tremendous dedication to fostering literacy, and this grant will provide crucial support for their initiatives to improve reading proficiency and enhance the educational experience for their students and the broader community.
A Commitment to Literacy and Educational Excellence
College View Elementary’s application highlighted both their significant financial need and their thoughtful, actionable plan to make a lasting impact on literacy in their school. Despite progress made during the 2023-2024 school year, the school continues to work toward critical achievement goals. For example, while 69% of K-3 students—106 in total—met benchmark reading expectations, they fell just shy of their 73% goal. Challenges remain in 2nd-grade classrooms, where only 41% of students reached the benchmark, and in 3rd grade, where 65% met their targets. This leaves many rising 3rd-5th graders reading below grade level.
Plans for the Grant: Supporting Literacy Growth
With the $20,000 grant, College View Elementary plans to expand their library resources, offering digital literacy tools and high-interest decodable chapter books that will engage students at their specific reading levels. By providing texts that align with students’ abilities while remaining age-appropriate and captivating, the school aims to foster a deeper love for reading and improve literacy outcomes.
Additionally, the grant will support a more strategic partnership between the school and families. College View Elementary is committed to offering parents the tools and resources to understand their children’s academic goals and progress, facilitating better communication and collaboration. This family-focused approach will enhance the school’s efforts to provide targeted support, ultimately helping students thrive both academically and personally.
We commend College View Elementary for their hard work and commitment to shaping the future of their students and look forward to seeing the incredible impact this grant will make!
